Interviews

This semester in class we have been working on a career unit. The last few weeks we have been learning how to fill out applications, resumes, cover letters, etc... Today we practiced our interviewing skills. The kids did a great job. I was very impressed!

Future Thespians!

One of my favorite things to teach in 8th grade is reading fluency because I get to do a play/reader's theater with my students. This year was no exception! Some students really got into their parts, which makes it that much more fun! They all did an excellent job and I am very proud of them!

Poetry

Before Spring Break, my reading classes were working on poetry. We took notes and wrote cinquains, haikus, and limericks. As a class we wrote a limerick. This is what we came up with:

ROCK Boot Camp

This week my ROCK group decided to have a "boot camp" week. We started out the week with each student being a drill sergeant for one minute. Today, we participated in a pilates video. It was funny watching the kids and seeing how tired they were by the end. It sounded like they had fun while doing it because they asked to do more tomorrow!

Vocabulary Review

In preparation for our upcoming vocabulary test, we had a scavenger hunt to review the words. It was fun watching the kids run around trying to find the words and definitions.

Saturday night was our annual Dodgeball Tournament. We had a great turnout and I think the kids had a lot of fun!

Teamwork

This past week we have been working on our team building skills. The students have become very upset and frustrated at times with how hard the activity is, but by the end of the week they were starting to work as a team. I'm hoping that through this week the students feel tighter as a group and we will be able to discuss and do things more serious next semester.

Elf Yourself

Ms. Engstrom sent me this site where you could put your face, or someone else's face, in the body of an elf and watch them dance. Winter Formal

Last Saturday the 7th and 8th graders had their Winter Formal. It was an amazing night and the kids looked so great dressed up. Here are a few pictures of the wonderful evening:

Reading Project and Randomness

So...one day while working on a hero project in reading, a group of boys needed to record a song onto their iMovie. This required the class to be silent so it could record uninterrupted. However, Austin decided to perform a lyrical dance for us, causing the class to die laughing. Here's his performance:

Minute to Win It

For the past couple of weeks the students have been participating in Minute to Win It Games in ROCK. Some of these were very interesting and funny to witness. Here are a few photos:

 Get the cookie from your forehead to your mouth without using your hands.

 Keep a feather in the air for one minute. You can only blow on it.

 Assemble a puzzle in one minute.

Get six noodles onto a spaghetti noodle in your mouth without using your hands.
